Sports Massage

What is Sports Massage and who’s it suitable for?
Sports Massage isn’t just for athletes, Sports Massage is for anyone suffering with muscular pain and tightness, immobility, postural defects or specific injuries.  Designed to break down collections of lactic acid, collagen and other by-products deposited in the muscular skeletal system, sports massage can promote a greater range of movement by loosening muscular tension to help reduce general aches and pains and help re-align postural defects.

The most common problems resolved by Sports Massage include lower back pain, hip and IT band issues, tight shoulders, headaches, tendonitis, tennis elbow and also sciatica. There really isn’t much Sports Massage can’t cure when delivered correctly.

Why me?
I pride myself on delivering prescriptive sports massage NOT just deep tissue massage or manual manipulation. After 15 years as a pro athlete, 10 years as an injury specialist and 5 years as a yoga teacher, there’s not much I haven’t seen or experienced myself. If you are frustrated with spending money here there and everywhere trying to get yourself ‘fixed’ look no further. If I see you and think I can’t help you YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGED – I’ll refer you to one of my esteemed colleagues in the holistic healing business who I think can better take care of your issues – be it Physiotherapy, Cranial Sacral, Yoga, or Strength and Conditioning. Trust me when I say I don’t want to take your money and not fix you, I will send you to someone who can if I can’t.

I’ve sustained many of the most common injuries athletes sustain and after all’s said and done it mostly comes down to posture, hence why I became a yoga teacher – so I had somewhere to progress clients on to after I’d loosened their bodies. So if you want a fresh, not money hungry perspective on your injuries or aches and pains, no matter what you age or ability please come and see me, I’d love to help you, or point you in the direction of someone who can.

About me:
After 10 years as a Sports Massage Therapist and over 15 years as a professional athlete I can honestly say that I feel confident to treat any client that walks through my door.  Analysing your body from a multitude of angles, I can generally ascertain where the injury or issue originated and what needs to be done to rectify it.

The site of the pain is rarely the actual problem. It’s usually an issue further up or down the body that’s causing the injury to occur or the pain to happen.  As an experienced athlete, personal trainer, yoga teacher and therapist I have both the knowledge and diversity to help even the most complex of cases.

I was lucky enough to be trained by Lia Wheeler, an incredibly talented Level 5 Sports Massage Therapist who has people travelling from as far as Sweden to be treated by her. She now works in Bond Street, London.  This strong foundation has given me the deepest understanding of the human body, it’s bio-mechanics and it’s coping mechanisms for dealing with injuries and chronic pain.

If you’re suffering with any of the following please give me a call to discuss your symptoms and we can plan a comprehensive road to recovery

Here are just some of the conditions that Sports Massage can help:
  • Sciatica.
  • Lower back pain.
  • Neck and shoulder pain, tightness or whiplash.
  • Stress or tension stored in the body.
  • Headaches and migraines.
  • Knee and hip pain, IT band syndrome.
  • Muscular strains, sprains and tears.
  • Ligament and tendon damage.
  • Scoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis.
  • General muscular tightness caused by injury or arthritis.
  • Postural alignment.
  • Weakness in certain muscle groups causing referred issues around the body.

Vicky, you are amazing. After six weeks of moping around on crutches and trying to 'rest', I have a one hour (pretty painful!) massage with you and I'm feeling rather hopeful of running at bootcamp. Thank you! :)
